Chinatown is located in Manhattan, New York. It is one of the largest Asian communities In America. There are many wonderful restaurants nestled in Chinatown. They have the greatest Asian groceries and markets in New York City. Here you can find any ingredients you need to make authentic Asian cuisine. I recently got some Chinese recipes while visiting Chinatown. These dishes are very easy to prepare. I will start with a seafood recipe first.
Fried Live Fish in Pepper Sauce:
2 thin slices of live fish
1 bowl of corn flour
Minced ginger and scallions
Salt
1 dish of pepper sauce
1 head of lettuce
First make shallow parallel cuts across the fish slices. Then marinate fish with salt, ginger, and scallions. Put the oil in a wok or deep non-stick skillet. Fry the fish until it is crisp. Take the fish out and put it on top of lettuce slices on a plate. Sprinkle with pepper sauce. That’s all there is to it.
Here is another favorite of mine. It is also an extremely easy dish to prepare.
Beef in Oyster Sauce:
1 piece of beef fillet
1 egg
Soda
Sugar
Salt
Oil
Oyster sauce
Soy sauce
Cornstarch
Water
5 mushrooms
Coriander
Minced garlic, ginger, and scallions
Shred beef and add the egg, soda, soy sauce, and cornstarch-water mixture. Blend together to make a batter and let it set for 30 minutes. Put beef and shredded mushrooms into a wok or a deep non-stick skillet. Deep fry until done. Heat oil and add garlic, ginger, scallions, sugar, and oyster sauce. Mix into a juice. Pour shredded beef into the juice. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with coriander and sesame oil and serve.

Hop Kee Restaurant In New York City
Apr 21st
Hop Kee Restaurant is a restaurant that specializes in authentic Cantonese dishes. It is located at 21 Mott Street in Chinatown in New York City. It is located in a Chinatown basement, so no need to dress up. Their phone number is (212) 964-8365. Their price range is between $3 and $14 dollars. They serve home style Cantonese cuisine. There cuisine is better than most other Chinese restaurants in the area.
They serve egg rolls that are stuffed full of pork, shrimp, cabbage, and are very crispy. Their boy choy was also crisp and never limp. The beef chow yun was cooked perfectly with tender and delicious pieces of beef served with rice noodles.
Their cuisine has a distinct flavor. Unlike some Chinese restaurants that have dishes that taste basically the same. The Hop Kee Cantonese Restaurant has fresh and very flavorful dishes. This is a local restaurant that has been in business for over 40 years.
Renowned chef and writer, Anthony Bourdain has been to Hop Kee to dine. They have autographed photos of many famous people on their walls. Some even write that Hop Kee is the best Cantonese restaurant in New York. It is also one of the favorite Filipino standbys of New York City. The waiter recognizes when you are Filipino and speaks in catch tagalog phrases.
The decor is not the best in the world, but their food more than makes up for that. Some more dishes that you can get here are beef and garlic sauce, chicken chow mien, salt and pepper pork, and shrimp with walnuts. Their service is courteous, efficient, and very friendly. The atmosphere was very laid back. It was like having dinner with friends.
This Cantonese Restaurant is one where you walk inside and take a number. You may have to wait a few minutes, since they are usually crowded. You then place your order and are seated at one of their round tables. You then enjoy an authentic Cantonese meal. Chinatown in New York is a little piece of China here in New York City.
For The Best Chinese Food and New York…
Apr 21st
American Chinese food was developed in the nineteenth century to suit the western palate. They placed Chinese restaurants in towns where Chinese food was unheard of. The Chinese people used local ingredients and bridged our wide food gap. This gave us all the chance to enjoy the delicious and traditional Chinese dishes.
There are two types of Chinese Restaurants. First there is the Famous all you can eat Chinese Buffet. Second is Chinese Take-out. This makes it convenient to call orders in and enjoy your meal at home.
Traditional Chinese dishes place more emphasize on vegetables. The American Chinese food usually uses vegetables as a garnish. Stir frying, deep-frying, and pan-frying are the typical ways Chinese food is cooked. The dishes are usually cooked very quickly in a wok. American Chinese restaurants use western ingredients instead of traditional Chinese ingredients in their dishes.
Here is a list of three of the best Chinese Restaurants in New York.
Fuleen Seafood is located at 11 Division St. between Market and Catherine St. in New York. The seafood is so fresh that their saltwater tanks aren’t part of the decor. They have Hong Kong style cuisine.
Buddakan is located at 75 9th Ave. Chelsea, New York. It is decorated like the great hall of China’s Palaces. Their cuisine includes Taro Puff Lollipops and Mongolian lamb chops.
Then there is Mr. K’s. located at 570 Lexington Ave. on 51st St. in New York. This Chinese restaurant was made a favorite by Washington Politicians and branched into New York. They serve Peking duck and Sea Bass in Szechwan sauce.
